Genevieve Hahn, coloratura/lyric soprano, enjoys a diverse vocal life. Her last adventure was to Graz, Austria where she was accepted into the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS). There, she performed in various concerts throughout the Styrian province and had intensive studies in voice. Her opera roles have been The Princess and The Fire in L’enfant et les sortilèges at Spotlight on Opera, Alcina in La liberazione di Ruggiero, Monica in Last Days, and Nausicaa Penelope and the Geese (which also performed in Athens and Corfu) for the UD Lyric Theatre. In the operetta genre, she has appeared as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance and Casilda in The Gondolierswith Rose Valley Chorus and Orchestra, and Rose Maybud in Ruddigore  and Lady Rosie Pippin in The Emerald Isle with The Ardensingers. Genna is also an ardent fan of musical theater. Besides performing as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at Delaware Children’s Theater, she has used her vast MT repertoire in cabarets and recitals.

Genevieve is also a frequent guest artist at churches in the tri-state area, where she twice has been employed as an Artist-in-Residence. During this time, she has performed a number of oratorio solos as well, including Saint-Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The First Nowell. Lastly, she has also had top choral experiences such as traveling to Croatia, England, and Wales with the Delaware Choral Scholars, as well as being accepted into the Delaware Cambridge Choral Exchange where she studied for two weeks with the Jesus College Chapel Choir.

Genevieve graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delaware with a Master’s degree in Flute Performance and Vocal Performance, where she studied flute with Professor Eileen Grycky and voice with Dr. Isai Jess Munoz. She is presently studying voice with Jessica Beebe. During this time at UD, Genna won the Greater Philadelphia NATS Advanced College Musical Theater Treble Competition and Adult/College Musical Theater Competition, and the Newark Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition College Division, where she performed three operatic arias with the orchestra. She was a finalist in the Eastern Region NATS Adult Musical Theatre Treble Competition and the UD Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and took 2nd place in the GPNATS Advanced College/Independent Studio Classical Treble Voice Competition. She has also performed in master classes with Stephen Powell, Edrie Means Weekly, Forrest McClendon, and Katherine Jolly.

Genevieve also pursues performing in concerts that benefit different charitable causes, such as the Jonathan Beech Memorial Concert (donates funds to pediatric cancer foundations) and the Annual Benefit Concert to Combat Human Trafficking. She also enjoys learning foreign languages and has a proficient knowledge of Italian, German, French, Russian, and The Muppets.

Flute

During her years as a Master’s student, Genevieve fulfilled the positions of principal flute and piccolo in the UD Symphony Orchestra and the UD Wind Ensemble. She was also chosen to be the principal of that same group for their tour of Prague in the summer of 2022.

​

She has been a member of a number of chamber ensembles, including the UD Collegium Musicum, in which she played the Baroque flute, Renaissance flute, and various recorders. She won the UD Concerto Competition and took second place in the Eastern Division of the MTNA Young Artist Woodwind Performance Competition. She also won the DSMTA Award at UD for Outstanding Performance, the Newark Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition College Division, and the UD Honors Recital Competition. She was chosen for the NFA Professional Flute Choir.

 

It was also during her time at UD that she got to be in the pit orchestra of a premiere performance of ​Shanghai Sonatas, an original musical written by UD faculty that is on its way to Broadway. It tells the story of German and Austrian Jewish refugees in Shanghai in World War II, where they gave lessons to the locals and began the Western classical music epicenter that China is today. She is very proud to have been part of this musical’s inception and looks forward to its further development.

 

She has performed in master classes with Brandon Patrick George, Bart Feller, Trudy Kane, ZAWA, Leah Arsenault Barrick, Erica Peel, Sara Jackson, Edward Schultz, Gary Schocker, Greg Pattillo, Amy Porter, and Katherine Hoover. In the summer of 2023, she was a winner of the National Flute Association’s Masterclass Performers Competition and  traveled to Phoenix, AZ to perform in a masterclass with Giovanni A. Perez at the NFA's Annual Convention.

She has also been employed as a professional flutist by various churches in the tri-state area and ensembles including Serafin Ensemble. She has accompanied various choral ensembles for concerts, such as The Rainbow Chorale of Delaware and Joyful Noise Delaware. In her continuing efforts to work with charitable foundations, she also played her flute during the cocktail hour of A Door of Hope’s annual gala.
